It is one of our favorite times of year here at EMMA International, National Engineers Week!
National Engineers Week was started in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers to help ensure a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing the understanding of and interest in careers in engineering and technology[1]. This week is dedicated to promoting recognition and public awareness of engineers’ positive contributions to the quality of life and the importance of technical education.
Our quality engineers make up part of our technical team and, as such, work hard to ensure all our clients’ success and satisfaction. As part of celebrating National Engineers Week or E-Week, we interviewed our quality engineers to get their take on a couple of questions:
What does being an Engineer mean to you?
Gabe Kadoo: To me, being an engineer means producing a high quality of work to ensure our clients are compliant with the necessary regulations and happy with the work be provided.
Bano Ahmed: Being an engineer means making things better through problem-solving. For us, problem-solving involves creating new processes or remediating old ones to resolve our clients’ issues.
How do you create a culture of quality?
Bano: Creating a quality culture involves having quality-focused values and action in all areas. It is about more than just following quality guidelines.
Gabe echoed this sentiment, stating: It’s about creating the basis for quality and then letting it grow. By encouraging everyone to use the tools put into place and showing them why it matters, you’re allowing them to understand the reasoning behind the processes, which makes them more likely to follow them.
Not only is E-week about celebrating the current engineers, but it is also about fostering future engineers and motivating them to pursue engineering careers and provide a robust and diverse engineering workforce. Our quality engineers had some sage advice for future engineers.
Gabe’s advice is to put 100% into everything that you do. Whether a simple email or a large project, it all matters. Bano’s suggestion to future engineers is to read constantly. Reading articles about new regulations, new advancements, or even areas you may have no interest in. Being up to date on what is happening in your industry can give you a unique advantage over others.
This E-week, we’d like to recognize and thank our Quality Engineers for being valuable members of our technical team and for all the work they do. This week be sure to take the time to thank an engineer in your life and show appreciation for all they do! At EMMA International, our engineers are responsible for developing and implementing quality processes that CLICTM, for clients’ regulatory compliance and full circle consulting.
