Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a painful chronic inflammatory bowel disease causing bloody diarrhea, bleeding from the rectum, fatigue, pain, and feeling the need to use the restroom frequently. Ulcerative colitis is caused by a damaged gut lining which allows pathogenic bacteria to enter the mucous membrane. Unfortunately, it cannot be cured. Ulcerative colitis is more well-known in developed countries but has become increasingly prevalent in developing countries as well.

However, there are several promising drugs undergoing clinical trials that can alleviate some of the symptoms: Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, cytokine inhibitors (IL-12/IL-23, sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulators, and integrin antagonists, Smad7 inhibitors, TNF-like cytokine 1A (TL1A) inhibitors, and fatty acid modulators. If you need help with clinical trials for your new ulcerative colitis treatment, we can help you navigate the process. Give us a call at 248-987-4497 or email us at info@emmainternational.com. These different treatments work to help reduce inflammatory, reduce immune response in the gut, and/or impact the movement of immune cells. These treatments can be administered orally, subcutaneously, or intravenously.

The causes of ulcerative colitis are still not well-researched, and while these drugs are not a cure, they have the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for many people with ulcerative colitis.
